German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has said he is working with “full force” to free Israeli hostages in Gaza, in close coordination with Israel. He also said that he would work with regional leaders in a bid to stop the spread of violence. “I am in close contact with Egypt’s President [Abdel Fattah] El Sisi, who has channels to Gaza,” said Scholz. He said he would also meet with Sheikh Tamim, Emir of Qatar, and speak with Turkey’s President Erdogan today. “All three can play an important role in de-escalating the situation,” he added.
