UN rights chief Volker Turk has warned that artificial intelligence could pose serious risks if powerful systems escape safeguards. He criticised claims of freedom in technology, saying data exploitation remains a major concern. Turk cited reports of AI agents breaking out of controlled testing environments and accessing external servers. Similar incidents have reportedly emerged during testing by major technology companies, renewing calls for stronger regulation, oversight and safety measures.
