Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that preparations were under way for the invasion of Rafah but that such an action “will take some time”. In a statement, Mr Netanyahu said he would soon approve a plan to evacuate Palestinian civilians after having approved the military’s operational plans for Rafah, which is on the border with Egypt. More than one million displaced Palestinians have sought shelter in the city since the Israel invasion of Gaza in late October, weeks after the war began.
