Pope Francis has said Lebanon is also paying the price for Israel’s war on Gaza during a meeting with the families of victims of the 2020 Beirut port explosion. “Lebanon is, and must remain, a project for peace,” the Vatican’s news agency quoted him as saying in a private meeting with families. The country is “paying a price” for Israel’s war in Gaza, the Pope said, and he lamented “the death of so many innocent people”.
