Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni said on Tuesday her country was ready to engage with Syria’s new leadership after the overthrow of president Bashar Al Assad, but urged caution. “Italy … is ready to engage with the new Syrian leadership” in co-operation with European and other international allies, Ms Meloni told parliament, adding: “The first signs seem encouraging, but maximum caution is needed.”
