The UN appointed a co-ordinator to oversee humanitarian relief shipments into Gaza as part of a Security Council resolution adopted on Friday to increase aid to the enclave. Sigrid Kaag, formerly the deputy prime minister and minister of finance of the Netherlands, will be the senior humanitarian and reconstruction co-ordinator for Gaza. She would begin serving in her role from January 8, the UN said in a statement.
