Secretary of the Defence Council of Iran, Ali Shamkhani, says that if the main issue behind negotiations is for Iran not to build nuclear weapons, it is in line with the “fatwa of the leadership and Iran’s defence doctrine”. In a post on X, Shamkhani said that “immediate agreement is within reach” if that is the case, and that Araghchi has “enough support and authority to reach an agreement”. Iran has repeatedly stated that it has no intention of creating a nuclear weapon.
