The government has approved a Rs360 billion mini-budget that includes a 17 percent sales tax on roughly 140 essential industrial goods, as well as a 50 percent increase in income tax rates on phone calls.

On Thursday, Adviser to the Prime Minister on Finance Shaukat Tarin was briefed on the idea, which, if passed by parliament, will make everything more expensive.
