In a report, the UN Development Programme’s (UNDP’s) Programme of Assistance to the Palestinian People says Gaza’s two pre-war landfills are unreachable due to the fighting and it had set up 10 temporary sites. But Chitose Noguchi, the UNDP’s deputy special representative, said: “The solid waste management system has collapsed.” Noguchi said there were more than 140 informal dumping sites that have cropped up. Some of them are giant pools of human waste and garbage.
