BEIJING: Chinese authorities have penalised 10 people accused of spreading misinformation about a deadly mudslide near the Nepal border, police said Monday. The penalties may include fines or detention of up to 10 days. Rescue teams continued searching for missing people after floodwaters swept through parts of Nepal and Tibet last week. China’s Ministry of Public Security said the individuals circulated claims that deaths and missing persons far exceeded officially reported figures.
