Mogadishu: On August 21, security forces ended a siege by al Qaeda-linked militants at a hotel in Somalia’s capital in which more than 20 people were killed and dozens injured. Dozens of people who had been taken hostage in the stand-off at the Hayat Hotel in Mogadishu were freed. Elite armed forces battled the militants for 30 hours from Friday evening after the attackers blasted and shot their way into the hotel.
