On Tuesday, a senior Ukrainian cybersecurity official, Victor Zhora, revealed that the digital sabotage that hit Viasat’s KA-SAT network had caused a massive communications outage at the outset of Russia’s invasion. Victor Zhora said that he could not reveal much about the incident, which incapacitated tens of thousands of satellite modems across Europe. The incident happened on the morning of February 24, just as the Russian army pushed into Ukraine.
