It emerged that the Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ) on Tuesday filed a petition in the Islamabad High Court (IHC) challenging the Prevention of Electronic Crimes (Amendment) Act Ordinance 2022. On Sundau, President Dr Arif Alvi had promulgated an ordinance to amend the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act, 2016 (Peca). Under the ordinance, online defamation has been made a non-bailable, cognisable offence and the jail term for defamation has been increased from three years to five years.
