Athens: As NATO confronted Russia over security in Europe, renewed tension between Greece and Turkey was biting at its eastern heel. Turkey sent a letter to UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres last July and September in which Turkey questioned Greece’s sovereignty over its east Aegean islands.
The letter said that “sovereignty was ceded to Greece on the specific and strict condition that they be kept demilitarised,” Turkey’s permanent representative, Feridun Sinirlioglu told.
