Retired US General and former US Assistant Secretary of State Mark Kimmitt has told Al Jazeera that a “strategic bombing campaign” is rarely a way to achieve objectives in a conflict, and historically, it is not a way to “win a war”. “’Shock and awe’ didn’t work in Iraq,” Kimmitt said. “But I think the sheer volume of the attacks, as well as the willingness for targeted assassinations of leaders, this really doesn’t resemble a strategic bombing campaign as much as it resembles the Israeli operations against Hezbollah after October 7,” he said.
