Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, BNP’s secretary-general, has said the party expects to form a government on Sunday after what it says was a sweeping election victory. Speaking to reporters at his residence in Thakurgaon on Friday, Alamgir said the BNP is “a party of the people” and argued that “the rise of extremism” was prompted by what he described as “fascist forces and repression of opposition parties”. Alamgir said the BNP would gradually implement the commitments it signed under the July Charter, alongside its election manifesto and 31-point reform agenda.
