The UN’s humanitarian chief, Tom Fletcher, entered the Gaza Strip on Thursday, crossing from Egypt through the Israeli side of the Karam Abu Salem crossing, UN spokesman Stephane Dujarric said. Mr Fletcher visited Deir Al Balah, where he toured the Castle Bakery, one of nine bakeries the World Food Programme supports with fuel and ingredients in central and southern Gaza. The bakery, once the largest in Khan Younis before relocating after an Israeli eviction order, now produces up to 300,000 loaves of pita bread per day thanks to the ceasefire that has allowed renewed access to fuel and flour, Mr Dujarric said.
