The UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres has called the situation unfolding in Gaza “morally, politically and legally intolerable”. “We are seeing massive destruction of neighbourhoods, now the systematic destruction of Gaza city, we are seeing massive killing of civilians in a way that I do not remember in any conflict since I became Secretary General and we are seeing dramatic obstacles to the distribution of humanitarian aid,” Mr Guterres said. He called the violence “horrendous”, as nations prepare to gather for the UN General Assembly in New York where France and Saudi Arabia are leading a push for a long-term peace settlement.
