The Israeli military said at least 14 militants attempted to raid an army outpost in southern Gaza’s Khan Younis on Wednesday morning. The rare direct attack began at about 9am, when the fighters emerged from a tunnel near the army post and began to fire anti-tank and machine guns at troops of the Kfir Brigade’s Haruv reconnaissance unit, while approaching the site, the Times of Israel reported. Soldiers exchanged fire with the militants, killing at least eight of the gunmen just outside the outpost, while others probably managed to flee back into the tunnel, an army probe found.
