President Donald Trump will meet Russian President Vladimir Putin in the US state of Alaska next Friday too negotiate an end to the war in Ukraine. Mr Trump announced the “highly anticipated meeting” on his Truth Social platform. The announcement comes after Mr Trump said on Friday that the parties were close to a ceasefire deal, and while that claim has been made in the past, this time Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has echoed the sentiment. “We are speaking with our partners to ensure real steps are taken. We are in constant communication with the American side, and our partners, for their part, are also engaging with the United States,” Mr Zelenskyy said in a post on X.
