The Israeli military said on Monday that five UN aid lorries have entered Gaza, ending a total humanitarian blockade blamed for pushing the strip’s inhabitants to the brink of famine. The five vehicles entered through the Karam Abu Salem crossing, carrying items including baby food, the Israeli military said. The UN said nine lorries were given clearance to enter on Monday. UN aid chief Tom Fletcher called it “a drop in the ocean of what is urgently needed”.
