Jad Isaac, the director of the Applied Research Institute in Jerusalem, has told Al Jazeera that he is not surprised by Hamas’s latest statement, in which it says it will release the captives if Israel adheres to the agreement. Isaac said the ultimatum issued by US President Donald Trump and Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz, who threatened to resume war on Gaza, signals “hypocrisy” when Israel was not keeping to its commitments. Isaac said that Netanyahu was unwilling to enter the second phase of the ceasefire deal, adding that instead, the Israeli PM would opt to stall and look to extend the first phase.
