A senior Turkish government official told the top UN court in The Hague that the current conflict in Gaza risks turning into a regional war that will increasingly polarise communities. “The current trajectory risks a broader regional conflagration, as well as inter-communal polarisation,” said Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister Ahmet Yildiz during hearings about the legality of the Israeli occupation of Palestinian territories since 1967. “Furthermore, rising threats of Islamophobia, anti-Semitism, and extremism all around the world must also be taken into consideration,” he added.
