At least 2,000 people remain buried under the rubble in Gaza and bodies began to decay, the enclave’s authorities reported. Officials said thay they lacked the equipment needed to dig the bodies out and were waiting for international aid agencies to bring in heavy duty excavators through the Rafah border crossing with Egypt. “We need help to save and uncover over the 2,000 bodies still stuck under the rubble. We are unable to dig them out,” Gaza municipality spokesman Hosni Mhanam reported.
