ROME: The Vatican is planning a major renewable energy project combining solar power and agriculture at its Santa Maria di Galeria estate near Rome. Sources said the roughly €100 million agrivoltaic plant could generate 80 to 90 megawatts, potentially powering the Holy See within two years. Solar panels would be installed above crops, providing shade while producing electricity. A joint Italian-Vatican commission recently launched the project following Italy’s ratification of a bilateral agreement governing the site.
