US Secretary of State Antony Blinken denied American involvement in the suspected Israeli air strike that killed Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran. “The death of Hamas leader [Ismail] Haniyeh was not something we were aware of or involved in,” Mr Blinken told Singapore’s CNA News, adding it is “very hard to speculate” on the consequences of his death. Speaking to The National, Hamas officials have said the operation was carried out with an “American green light” and has frozen already-fragile ceasefire negotiations to end the war in Gaza.
