The UN’s humanitarian aid organisation has declared a famine in Gaza, after months of Israel blocking supplies to more than two million people. The UN Office for the Co-ordination of Humanitarian Affairs (Ocha) warned malnutrition could threaten the lives of more than 130,000 young children. Ocha announced famine in Gaza city, the enclave’s capital and largest urban centre, at a briefing in Geneva. In a report, it said famine is “currently occurring” in Gaza city and is expected to expand south to Deir Al Balah and Khan Younis governorates “by the end of September”.
