A UN summit on a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict offers a “rare and indispensable opportunity” to break a cycle of violence and mistrust, Secretary General Antonio Guterres said. Speaking at the opening of a summit hosted by France and Saudi Arabia, the UN head also warned that prospects for a two-state solution remain “farther than ever before”, as violence and suffering escalate in Gaza. Mr Guterres said the decades-old conflict has “defied hopes, diplomacy, countless resolutions and international law”.
