Turkiye: An Istanbul court has sentenced a televangelist who surrounded himself with scantily clad women he called “kittens” to 8,658 years in prison in a retrial. Adnan Oktar, who has been described as a “cult leader”, led television programmes surrounded by women as he preached creationism and conservative values. Adnan Oktar was charged with leading a criminal gang, engaging in political and military espionage, and sexual abuse of minors, among others. Surprisingly, his programmes aired on TV in Pakistan, and his books sold in bookshops all had the name Harun Yahya.
