Bangkok: It was reported on Jan 30 that the authorities rushed to prevent an oil spill in eastern Thailand to stave off fragile corals from damage. The officials announced that the leak that started last week was gliding towards more coastal areas. “If the oil reached inside this area it could impact the beach and cause heavy damage to the shallow water corals,” Minister of Natural Resources and the Environment Varawut Silpa-archa expressed his concerns.
