The Austin Police Department in Texas said that the stabbing of Palestinian-American Zacharia Doar met the definition of a hate crime. Suspect Bert Baker stabbed Mr Doar after a pro-Palestine protest near the University of Texas at Austin campus. The victim is now recovering after surgery. The police department’s Hate Crimes Review Committee said that the stabbing was a bias-motivated incident and prosecutors will now decide whether to charge Mr Baker with hate crimes.
