Ex-Taliban commander sentenced to 42 years in US prison for hostage taking, deadly attacks

A US court on Tuesday sentenced a former Taliban commander to 42 years in prison and five years of supervised release for his role in taking of hostages, including one American journalist, identified as New York Times journalist David Rohde. A New York court handed down the sentence to 50-year-old Haji Najibullah for “his role in the hostage taking of an American journalist and two Afghan nationals in Afghanistan and Pakistan in 2008 and 2009,” a court document read. 'Same enemy on both borders': Minister sees no difference between Kabul, New Delhi

Afghanistan announces release of detained US citizen

Interim Afghan Taliban government has announced that it was freeing a US national who had been detained for more than a year. The foreign ministry said on Tuesday the family of linguist and researcher Dennis Coyle had written to the supreme leader of Afghanistan, requesting his release for Eid. "The Supreme Court of the Islamic Emirate deemed his period of detention sufficient and decided on his release," a statement read. Read More…

Pakistan issues demarche to Taliban regime over terror attack in KP's Bajaur

Pakistan summoned the Afghan mission and issued a strong demarche to the Afghan Taliban regime over the deadly terrorist attack in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa's Bajaur district that martyred 11 Pakistan Army soldiers. “Pakistan condemned in the strongest possible terms the vehicle-borne suicide terrorist attack, followed by a fire raid on Pakistan military and law enforcement agencies’ post in Bajaur, carried out by Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (Fitna al Khwarij),” stated a press release issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Thursday. Several killed in blast in Afghan capital Kabul

Several people were killed in a blast in the Afghan capital Kabul's Shahr-e-Naw area, the Taliban interior ministry said on Monday. "According to preliminary reports, a number of people were killed and injured," Interior Ministry spokesperson Abdul Mateen Qani told Reuters. Kabul police spokesperson Khalid Zadran said the blast targeted a hotel in the commercial Shahr-e-Naw neighbourhood that includes large office buildings, shopping complexes and embassies.
