Sindh Cabinet to mull over Thar granite economic zone

Sindh’s caretaker cabinet in a session on Oct. 31 will discuss, sugarcane support prices, a special economic zone for granite in Thar and other agendas. The provincial caretaker cabinet with Chief Minister Maqbool Baqar in chair, will meet at the Sindh Secretariat, according to an official notification. The caretaker cabinet will discuss a 16-point agenda including the fixation of the support price of sugarcane, workers' minimum wage and setting up a special economic zone for granite in Tharparkar. Water shortage worse than expected: Sources

During the Kharif season, which began on April 1 with the sowing of important crops such as cotton, sugarcane, rice, and maize, Pakistan is experiencing a severe water scarcity of 38% for irrigation reasons. On Thursday, the Indus River System Authority (IRSA), which regulates and monitors the allocation of Indus River water sources among the four federating units, presented a presentation before the National Assembly's Standing Committee on Water Resources.
