Lahore ranks first among world's most polluted cities

Punjab’s capital Lahore ranked first on the list of the world’s most polluted cities on Saturday morning, as dense smog continued to blanket the metropolis and its surroundings. According to air quality monitoring platform IQAir, the city recorded a US AQI of 412 at 8:30am, categorised as hazardous, with PM2.5 concentrations at 281 µg/m, a staggering 56.2 times higher than the World Health Organisation’s (WHO) annual guideline value. Lahore reports over 15,000 infected cases amid smog in 24 hours

The smog crisis in Lahore has worsened, with over 15,000 cases of respiratory and viral infections reported in just 24 hours. As per details, the city’s hospitals are overwhelmed with patients suffering from dry cough, breathing difficulties, pneumonia, and chest infections. Punjab govt shuts amusement parks, museums amid smog

The Punjab government has taken a major step to combat the hazardous smog conditions in the province by shutting down amusement parks and museums for 10 days, from November 8 to 17. As per details, the districts affected by this ban include Lahore, Gujranwala, Faisalabad, Multan, Sheikhupura, Kasur, Nankana Sahib, Gujarat, Hafizabad, Mandi Bahauddin, Sialkot, Narowal, Chiniot, Jhang, and Toba Tek Singh. Punjab markets ordered to close by 8 PM

The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Friday mandated that all markets close by 8:00 PM each day and remain shut on Sundays as part of efforts to address the intense smog affecting the city. While issuing the order, Justice Shahid Karim noted that despite numerous hearings and calls for action, there has been a lack of effective measures to combat smog. Green lockdown imposed in Lahore amid smog

The Punjab government on Wednesday imposed a green lockdown in various areas of Lahore to combat smog and pollution. According to the notification, the restrictions has been imposed on construction work , plying of chingchi rickshaws, and use of commercial generators. Restaurants and barbecue services will also restricted after 8 pm in the most affected areas. According to a notification issued here, the green lockdown has been imposed in different areas including Davis Road, Kashmir Road, Egerton Road, Durand Road, Abbott Road, Empress Road, Queen Road and Allama Iqbal Road. School timings revised amid increasing smog levels in Lahore

New school timings have been enforced in Lahore as a precaution against worsening air pollution due to smog. On Sunday, the air quality index (AQI) in Lahore soared to dangerous levels of 700, according to a global monitoring site. The developments follows after the directions of Punjab’s Environment Protection Department. Lahore traffic police launch awareness drive to combat smog

Lahore traffic police has launched a public outreach campaign aimed at reducing the smog threat in the provincial capital of Punjab. The Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) in a message has encouraged citizens to report vehicles emitting excessive smoke by sending videos and pictures via WhatsApp. A dedicated WhatsApp number, 0304-2222089, has been introduced by the Lahore traffic police for this purpose.
