Pak-Iran gas pipeline: PM forms committee to resolve arbitration impasse

Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik on Tuesday told the Senate that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has formed a high-level committee to resolve the Pak-Iran gas pipeline arbitration impasse. JI protests over fuel prices, inflation disrupt traffic across several cities

Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) staged nationwide protests on Friday against inflation, higher fuel prices, the petroleum levy, and taxes, with demonstrations, sit-ins, and rallies disrupting traffic on major highways and roads in several cities. In Karachi, the party’s protest led to severe traffic jams and congestion at many places. According to the traffic police spokesperson, traffic pressure was reported on both carriageways between Lasbela Chowk and Numaish Chowrangi, on roads linking Tibet Centre with Numaish Chowrangi, and on both sides of the road between Numaish and Shahrah-e-Quaideen. Petrol pump owners defer nationwide strike after negotiations with govt

The All Pakistan Petrol Pumps Owners Association (APPPOA) on Wednesday postponed its planned nationwide strike after successful negotiations with the federal government, while the Petroleum Dealers Association also endorsed the decision. Petrol pump owners and dealers had earlier announced a 24-hour nationwide shutdown from Thursday in protest against the government's decision to revise petroleum product prices on a daily basis. Govt increases petrol, diesel prices by Rs55 per litre amid Middle East tensions

The federal government has raised petrol and diesel prices by Rs55 per litre as surging global oil prices, fuelled by the US‑Israel war with Iran, put pressure on domestic energy costs. The announcement was made by Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik in a press conference alongside DPM Ishaq Dar and Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb.
