National Assembly passes bills related to military, National Command Authority

The National Assembly on Thursday passed by majority vote the Defence Forces Act 2026, and the National Command Authority (Amendment) Bill, following their approval by the federal cabinet earlier. The bills were approved by the cabinet during a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, where the government endorsed draft legislation aimed at implementing legal and administrative changes arising from the 27th Constitutional Amendment. National Assembly approves Budget 2026-27 with revised duties

The National Assembly has approved Budget 2026-27, with the Finance Bill outlining revised duties on imported vehicles, stricter Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) compliance rules and electronic filing requirements. According to the Finance Bill 2026-27, from July 1, imported vehicles from 2,000cc to 3,000cc will face 86% duty, while 3,001cc imported vehicles will be subject to 92% duty. Read More…

NA passes bill seeking to keep lawmakers' assets 'confidential'

The National Assembly (NA) on Wednesday passed the Elections Amendment Bill, 2026, seeking to allow the withholding of public disclosure of lawmakers’ assets and liabilities if such disclosure is deemed to pose a serious threat to the life or safety of the member or their family. The bill was moved by Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) lawmaker Shazia Atta Marri in the lower house. The National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq on Friday notified Tehreek Tahafuz Ayeen-e-Pakistan (TTAP) chief Mahmood Khan Achakzai as the new opposition leader in the lower house, months after the key post was left vacant.
