GB Hunting Permits Fetch High Bids

GILGIT: Gilgit-Baltistan’s Wildlife and Parks Department auctioned hunting permits for 117 animals for the 2026-27 trophy hunting season, with an Astore markhor permit fetching a record $356,000. Other markhor permits also attracted high bids. Officials expect to generate Rs650 million from the season, covering three markhors, 14 blue sheep and 100 Himalayan ibexes through April 2027. Centre, KP at odds over 'ban' on Markhor, Ibex hunting

A new rift has emerged between the federal and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa governments in light of the Centre's decision to ban the hunting of non-exportable markhor, ibex and grey goral. In a letter addressed to the KP's wildlife secretary, the wildlife chief conservator has said that the federal government has banned the hunting of said animals, citing the lack of permission. Indian army base shooting suspects on the run: Police

Indian police were hunting on Thursday two masked men responsible for the pre-dawn killing of four soldiers at an army base in northern India. The attack took place Wednesday morning at the Bathinda military station in Punjab, a northern state where tensions have been high over the resurgence of a separatist movement. A police report quoting an army major who claimed to have witnessed the attack, said two unidentified men had entered the highly guarded outpost with their faces covered. Read More…
