Gul Plaza Fire Case Takes a New Turn

KARACHI: Police have submitted a fresh charge sheet in the Gul Plaza fire case, blaming building management for negligence. The blaze, which erupted on January 17, killed at least 73 people and destroyed more than 1,100 shops. Gul Plaza search operation ends, authorities seal scorched building

The search operation of the deadly Gul Plaza shopping centre fire has culminated after 10 days of arduous rescue and relief efforts, and the scorched shopping centre has been sealed, the district administration said on Tuesday. The Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA) has said that experts from Lahore Forensic Laboratory and Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC) will inspect the building, and that it may take more than a week to complete the structure's inspection. Ruling alliance calls for empowered LG system after deadly Gul Plaza inferno

The deadly inferno at Karachi's Gul Plaza, which claimed at least 27 lives with 81 people are reportedly missing, echoed in the National Assembly as Defence Minister Khawaja Asif and Muttahida Qaumi Movement–Pakistan lawmakers called for an empowered local government system to prevent such incidents.
