Russia’s President Vladimir Putin should seize the “opportunity” of a ceasefire during talks with US President Donald Trump in Alaska, Germany’s Chancellor Friedrich Merz said on Friday. “The goal must be a summit also attended by President (Volodymyr) Zelenskyy” of Ukraine where “a ceasefire must be agreed”, Mr Merz said in a statement. He added that Mr Trump “can now take a major step toward peace” more than three years since Moscow’s invasion of Ukraine.
