It was reported on Jan 30, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan had sacked the head of the state statistics agency. The move came in the wake of data showing last year’s inflation rate hit a 19-year high of 36.1 percent. Sait Erdal Dincer, the now-former chairman of statistics institute TUIK, was just the latest in a series of economic clearings by Erdogan.
