Berlin: On Dec 8, Social Democrat Olaf Scholz took oath as German chancellor, finishing off Angela Merkel’s 16 years of conservative rule. He paved the way for his coalition government and had pledged to increase green investment and consolidate European unity. Scholz, 63, in coalition with Merkel also served as vice chancellor and finance minister over the past four years. He will be the 9th chancellor since World War II.
