Maximalist negotiating positions by both the US and Iran have prevented an end to the Middle East conflict, amid worrying signs of the war escalating, a former prime minister of Pakistan told The National. “I think when you go for a maximalist position, that's a stumbling block,” Anwaar Ul Haq Kakar said in a rare interview from Islamabad. “I think both sides probably choose to remain maximalist, and that is the prime reason for [a lack of] progress on this account when it comes to the resolution of the conflict.”
