Dimitris Maniatis, a maritime security analyst, says there’s been a “drastic decline” in the number of commercial vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz following a “tremendous increase” when the Iran-US deal was signed last month. Over the past three days, 26 vessels transited the Iranian route, 26 “went dark” with electronic tracking systems turned off, and only five vessels chose the US-military backed southern route, he noted.
