The chief of Israel’s general staff, Lt Gen Herzi Halevi, has taken responsibility for the accidental killing of three hostages in Gaza. “The IDF and I as its commander, are responsible for what happened, and we will do everything to prevent such incidents from recurring in future combat,” he said. He added that the hostages did everything they could to signal they weren’t a threat, “but this shooting was done during fighting and under pressure”.
