According to Baaghi TV, the Lahore High Court (LHC) deemed the blacklisting of passports unconstitutional on Thursday.
While ruling on a suit challenging the non-renewal of a blacklisted fugitive’s passport, Justice Tariq Saleem Sheikh of the LHC found blacklisting to be unlawful. The court stated in its decision that the Passport Act had no provision for blacklisting.
The deputy attorney general, on the other hand, warned that stopping the process would have a significant consequence. The court, however, concluded that protecting fundamental constitutional rights from state intrusion based on concerns is a top priority, and that if the law is flawed, Parliament should step in.
