During a visit by senior Iranian officials to Beirut on Friday, Lebanon’s caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati emphasised the importance of implementing UN Security Council resolution 1701. This ended the 2006 war between Israel and Hezbollah, called for a complete end to hostilities and stipulated that only the Lebanese army and UN peacekeepers should be stationed between the Israeli border and Lebanon’s Litani River.
