Israel summoned the Irish ambassador following comments made by Ireland’s leader on the release of Emily Hand, a nine-year-old Irish-Israeli child held hostage in Gaza. Foreign Minister Eli Cohen said that ambassador Sonya McGuinness was summoned for a “reprimand”, following “outrageous” remarks by Taoiseach Leo Varadkar on Emily’s release. “This is a day of enormous joy and relief for Emily Hand…. innocent child who was lost has now been found and returned, and we breathe a massive sigh of relief,” Mr Varadkar said. Condemning Varadkar’s comments, Cohen said: “This is how you describe a little girl who disappeared while wandering in the woods and then was discovered by a friendly hiker.”
