Egypt strongly condemned the “recent Israeli escalation in the region”, warning of the dangers of a “policy of assassinations” after Hamas chief Ismail Haniyeh was killed in an air strike in Tehran. The Foreign Ministry expressed its ”deep concern” over Israel’s actions, which it said could lead to a wider conflict in the region and called on the UN Security Council and other international powers to take responsibility and prevent the situation from “spiralling out of control”.
