Israel’s police have shut down six schools run by the UN agency for Palestinian refugees in the Shuafat refugee camp and other neighbourhoods of East Jerusalem, Israeli media reported. The closures follow a notice issued by police to the schools last month and mark the official enforcement of Israel’s ban on UNRWA operations. Earlier, UNRWA said the closure of the schools would put the education of 800 pupils in occupied East Jerusalem at risk.
