Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei said Iran’s relations with Venezuela are based on mutual respect and shared interests, stressing that this principle will continue to guide Tehran’s foreign policy, during his weekly press conference. Responding to reports suggesting that US officials have spoken about taking control of Venezuela’s affairs, Baghaei said such remarks reveal the true motives behind Washington’s actions. “In the past decades, interventions were justified under slogans such as democracy and human rights. Today, they openly say the issue is Venezuela’s oil,” he said.
